Darling Kiddies,
Breakfast just isn't the same unless you have a hot meal. Especially when it's about 29-30ºF outside. The ritual of getting up before having to go to class or work, and sitting down to a nice breakfast is something I'm especially fond of.
Recently I've been on a kick of having oatmeal for breakfast (getting up for classes after staying up late can take its toll after awhile). It's fast. They're microwaveable. Definitely NOT a thing I am proud of. However, in order to enjoy my breakfast at a semi-reasonable pace (and also because I am probably running late to class) I usually bring it with me. Again, not something I like doing. However, I happened upon a combination of ingredients (probably already thought of by someone else) that I didn't think to try before in my oatmeal. I say happened, because I opened my relatively empty fridge (shame on me) and took out random things I could throw in my breakfast that would probably taste ok, and would keep me full for a while.
What I ended up with was a somewhat quirky oatmeal dish that I liked and am probably going to make for myself again tomorrow.
1 - 1/2 cup of microwaveable store brand oatmeal oats. (SHAME)
2 - 1/4 cup of apple sauce
3 - 1/4 cup of plain greek yogurt.
I also added some water (I eyeballed it) so that it wouldn't be too congealed when it finished... 'cooking'. I tend to like my oatmeal on the soupy side. Not runny though, I very much despise that. I am also not particularly a fan of plain yogurt because of it's slightly sour taste (I bought it to throw into other dishes I was planning on making) but here I didn't mind. It was a sweet-sour oatmeal breakfast and, most importantly, it was hot. Even though I was eating it in the classroom, I found the flavors of the yogurt and applesauce surprisingly akin to comfort food.
Before I leave, I shall tell all of my ideal breakfasts:
Breakfast 1:
Eggs benedict (without ham) with vodka hollandaise sauce. Loaded with broccoli and spinach and perhaps if I'm feeling particularly unhealthy, some home fries lightly crispy. Hot chocolate to drink.
Breakfast 2 (on-the-go):
Pain au chocolat from a bakery of course, with hot chocolate. A very bad breakfast in terms of sustenance, but I am a chocolate freak.
Breakfast 3:
Marrons glacée crêpes. Or Nuetella ones. Basically any dessert-type crêpe (fruit ones count), with hot chocolate to drink. Did I mention that I was a chocolate freak?
Breakfast 4:
French toast, using thick slices of bread. Bananas flambé on top and a raspberry-lime sauce to boot.
Oh, and hot chocolate to drink.
Breakfast 5:
Bagels (onion or poppyseed will do) and cream cheese. With... CRANBERRY JUICE. Haha, just kidding.
Until next time kiddies.
xoxo
